Tour the Crocker House Museum

Starting May 2024 - our museum will be open from 1 PM to 4 PM on selected Sundays.

Step back in time to the late 1800s, when Mount Clemens was world-famous for its healing mineral baths.  Learn about the Crocker family and their domestic servants' daily life in period-furnished rooms, and see exhibits about Mount Clemens' history and industries.  Make sure to take a selfie on the bathhouse porch in our Bath City USA exhibit!  While you're here, be sure to visit the gift shop, where you'll find items like tea, decor, locally-made products, history books, and crafts by our volunteer craft group, and stroll through the gardens behind the house.

How do I visit the museum?

Call the museum office at 586-465-2488 to set up a tour appointment.  Whether it's just you, a few family members or friends, or a large group, we'll be happy to help arrange your visit!  Most tours are scheduled during our office hours, Tuesday-Thursday, 10:00-4:00, but other days and times may be available if needed.

What do tours cost?

Individual Pricing:

• $5.00 - Adult (ages 18-64)
• $4.00 - Senior (65+), military personnel, first responders, or youth (ages 6-17)
• Free - Members, active-duty military personnel and families through the Blue Star Museum program, or children under age 5

Group Rates:

• $15.00 - Family (up to 5 persons)
• $4.00/person - Groups of 10+ persons

Do I have to take a tour?  Can I view the museum on my own?

Many of the rooms in the Crocker House Museum represent a typical Victorian home.  Instead of display cases with labels describing the objects inside, you'll see furniture, home decor, toys and hobby equipment, tools, and lots of other items arranged like they might have been if you'd visited in the late 1800s.  For the safety of our guests, as well as our collection, we require a docent (tour guide) to accompany visitors through the house.

You'll also enjoy your visit much more with a docent, as they're experts on the house and will explain the story of each room, its contents, and the families who once lived here.  Feel free to ask questions--there's a lot to see and learn!

Some of our events are an open-house format, so you can explore the house at your leisure.  During open houses, a docent will be stationed in each room, and you'll sometimes find special activities to try!

How accessible is the museum?

The museum is located inside an 1869 Italianate-style house.  The main floor of the museum requires a short set of stairs, either at the front porch or the back of the house.  The main floor contains period rooms displays and the museum office. 

The basement, where the restrooms, gift shop, meeting area, and kitchen are located, is down one flight of stairs.  The second floor of the house, up one flight of stairs, holds the servants' quarters, nursery, and displays about the Crocker family and local industries.

The gardens and grounds behind the house are relatively flat with brick walkways and patios.

Where do I park?

Metered parking is available on the east side of the museum, along Union Street across from St. Mary Catholic School.  Meters are in effect from 8:00-6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Street parking is available on the west side of the museum along Byron Court.

What else is there to do in the area?
